The Colony Public Library (TCPL) is located in the City Hall / Library facility at 6800 Main Street. TCPL provides a wide range of on-site and remotely accessible materials and services. TCPL’s 15,000 sq. ft. facility includes a quiet room, two group study rooms, a story-time corner, 23 public access computers offering high-speed internet access and Microsoft Office 2007 Suite programs, and wireless internet access.

TCPL’s catalog may be searched remotely via the internet at, as well as via six catalog stations in the Library.TCPL’s on-site collection consists of over 81,000 items, which include popular materials in various formats: books, large-print books, audiobooks (CD, MP3, and cassette), videos (DVDs and VHS), CD-ROMs, music CDs, as well as reference materials and popular magazines. TCPL’s Local History Corner offers access to the largest collection of historical Denton County maps in the area, a growing collection of digitized historical photographs, copies of original land grants issued by the Texas General Land Office in the 1840s, genealogical research on the area’s prominent settlers, and electronic resources and databases for genealogical research.TCPL offers its cardholders 24/7 remote access to a wide variety of electronic resources, including over 4,200 downloadable audiobooks and ebooks; 34 language courses; 14 ESL courses; career development tools; test study guides; college preparation and financial aid resources; reader recommendations; business, investment, and legal information and directories; home improvement and auto repair guides, research information in the fields of health, science, social sciences, literature, genealogy, and history; authoritative dictionaries and multimedia encyclopedias; and over 600,000 biographies covering more than 525,000 individuals.  These resources may be accessed via TCPL’s website or by using the search features of TCPL’s catalog; federated searching is also available via the catalog search.Free online tutoring help for kindergarten through adult learners, as well as job search help and résumé assistance is provided to cardholders from 3 – 10 p.m. 7 days/week.  On-site services available from the Reference staff include interlibrary loan, exam proctoring, and reference and reader’s advisory service.  Requests may also be submitted by chat, text message, email, phone, or web form; see TCPL’s website for contact information. Income tax forms and publications for both current and previous years are available; TCPL hosts the AARP Tax Help program from February through mid-April.
